In addition, it is now even more important to emphasise health and safety for, so disposable items such as disposable bed sheets are very popular right now.

We’ve compiled a short guide for you to understand the main differences between woven and non-woven fabrics along with their benefits below.

Woven

Woven fabrics are those that are formed by weaving. Woven fabrics are usually made on a loom, and made of many threads woven on a warp and a weft.

Stronger

Woven fabrics, in most cases, are more stronger and durable than non-woven fabrics. This is because the woven fabrics are reinforced by threads crossing each other which makes for a stronger barrier.

Longer Lasting

If you are looking for something that lasts for longer then an item made from woven fabric will be more suitable for your needs. They are designed to last longer and as such, are not normally used as one-use items or disposable items.

Non-Woven

Non-woven fabrics can either be bonded or felted together and can be used to make many disposable products including disposable bed sheets.

Non-woven disposable products include surgical gowns, masks, bed sheets, gloves, shoe covers amongst others. Many clinics, hospitals and beauticians make use of these disposable products on a daily basis.

There are many advantages to choosing non-woven disposable products and we’ve listed the main ones below.

Production and Cost

As the material is easy to manufacture, costs are low and it can be produced in larger quantities quickly.

Many disposable items are made from non woven material, due to their low cost. Disposable items are in high demand due to the pandemic - having disposable items such as disposable bed sheets allows for salons and other establishments to quickly follow and adhere to new health and safety guidelines.

Some Non-woven items are stronger

Depending on how the non-woven material is made, it can be stronger than woven materials. For example, surgical gown material needs to be strong to a degree otherwise it will be unusable.

Breathable and Absorbent

Non-woven disposable bed sheets are designed for single use, made from good quality non-woven fabric which is breathable and causes no irritation to the skin so it can be safely used in salons and clinics.

Some non-woven fabrics also offer the ability to be either water resistant or absorbent depending on your needs.

Anti-bacterial

Some bed sheets can be made from non-woven fabric that has been created using Spunbond Meltblown Spunbond (SMS) which is a tri laminate non-woven fabric. Due to its internal layer, SMS fabric does not let bacteria multiply which is super hygienic. Another benefit of this non-woven fabric is that it does not lint, so even if you sit down with wet skin, you still won’t get any lint on you.
