Basic Skincare Routine For Dry Skin
If you have dry skin, don’t worry. Following the right skincare routine will allow you to remedy the issue, without creating the opposite effect and ending up with greasy, oily skin.
There are many factors that contribute to dry skin. Genetic predisposition, the effects of harsh weather, over-washing, various medical conditions and vitamin deficiency can all play a part, but there are different tactics you can deploy as part of your skincare routine to help improve the condition of your dry skin.
Follow our tips and advice in our skincare routine for dry skin and your skin will be restored. From cleansing, to repair and protection, this routine will help improve your dry skin.
Skincare Routine for Dry Sensitive Skin
In order to tackle dry and sensitive skin, we recommend both a morning and an evening skincare routine to achieve the best results.
Morning Skincare Routine for Dry Skin
1. Cleanse
When you wake up, cleansing is the first step - and one of the most important. For dry skin, use a hydrating face wash that is very mild. The objective here is to remove any accumulated oil and dirt but using a cleanser that is gentle enough to prevent irritation to the skin.
2. Tone With Serum
One your skin is clean, you need to help repair any previous damage by applying serum such as our Hydra O2 Vitamin Collagen Serum. This adds an element of moisture and also provides nutrition for your skin. With active ingredients including collagen and hyaluronic acid, it is designed to repair, reduce transepidermal water loss, regenerate and renew the architecture of the conjunctive tissue.
3. Moisturise
Using a good quality moisturiser is key in helping to manage dry skin. Our ‘dry skin’ range includes Absolute O2 Cream, an oxygenating moisturising cream.
Oxygenating cream is perfect for dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin. Thanks to the inclusion of hyaluronic acid as an active ingredient, Absolute O2 Cream is a beautiful natural moisturiser, which leaves skin smooth, soft and elastic. Hydrolysed collagen reduces fine lines and wrinkles and evens the skin surface. Vitamin C-rich strawberry, kiwi and raspberry extracts fill your skin with energy and vitality, and return its healthy radiant look.
Making sure you moisturise is essential - possibly the most important step in the entire dry skincare regime.
Apply the moisturiser soon after you have washed, when your skin is still damp. This will help increase the absorption and keep your skin hydrated for longer.
4. Protect
Once the moisturiser has been absorbed, you should apply sunscreen. Many people think they only need to apply this if they’re on holiday or spending time in the sunshine, but really it should form part of everybody’s year-round skincare routine, regardless of weather (this applies to all skin types).
- Sunscreen protects our skin from UV rays
- reduces the risk of skin cancer
- prevents premature ageing of the skin
- Helps maintain an even skin tone by reducing sun damage
We would recommend using at least factor 30.
Evening Skincare Routine for Dry Skin
1. Clean The Skin
It’s time to wash away the grime and pollutants that have built up through the day. ONC Dermology Face Cleanser is a face cleansing emulsion with intensive action that helps to restore the skin balance and natural skin vitality.
It does not contain colourings and is free of parabens, silicones or mineral oils. Simply apply to your neck and face, and rinse with clean water.
2. Exfoliate (Once A Week)
If your skin is dry it is likely quite sensitive, so we recommend exfoliating just once a week to clear the skin of any stubborn debris or dead cells. Apply the exfoliator gently using small, circular motions for 30 to 45 seconds, then rinse off with lukewarm water. If you use a brush or sponge, use short light strokes. Never exfoliate if you have open cuts or wounds or if your skin is sunburned.
3. Moisturise
Our Absolute Fusion range is designed specifically for dry, dehydrated skin. Our Absolute Vitamin Cream is part of this line: this moisturising and nourishing cream is a true nutritional bomb thanks to natural active ingredients, such as fruit and vegetable extracts. It replenishes minerals and vitamins and therefore restores skin’s vitality and its natural healthy look. It repairs skin and improves its elasticity by stimulating production of collagen and elastin.
Whilst suitable for normal and combination skin, Absolute Vitamin Cream works especially well on dry, sensitive or damaged skin as it provides all necessary nutrition for it as well as instantly moisture that lasts.
Dry Skin Routine for Winter
Dry, flaky skin can be exacerbated in the winter months when the harsher weather can take its toll on the skin. The good news is that the dry skin routine we’ve gone through works well year-round, so you can use it to deal with the winter weather as well.
In addition, it’s worth adding lip balm and hand cream to your routine - it’s common for winter weather to result in chapped hands and lips, and any broken skin can increase the risk of infection. Make sure you use moisturising hand cream every morning and night, and keep a chapstick handy (with SPF protection) to keep your lips smooth, supple and moist.
Things To Avoid If You Have Dry Skin
There are other elements outside a skincare routine that can have an impact on your dry skin. For example, it's well known that alcohol and caffeine can have dehydrating effects so keep an eye on your intake and make sure that you’re staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water in addition to the coffees, beer or wine!
Hot showers and baths can strip the skin of natural oils. This can cause irritation and dryness so bear this in mind if you suffer from dry skin. Reduce the time you spend in the bath or shower, drop the temperature a couple of degrees, and follow the skincare routine which will help to rehydrate your skin.
By following our routine for dry skin and our lifestyle tips, your dry skin issues will become a thing of the past and you can look forward to soft, glowing skin.
